VIA staff serve on several advisory committees and in other volunteer roles. Our highlight of this community service today is the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) Research Advisory Committee through the United Way of New York State. Caroline Taggart and Jessica Weitzel have served on the committee.

United Ways from 18 states are collaborating on the ALICE project to ‘quantify and describe the number of households that are struggling financially.’ This information will inform action to help people who are struggling financially but may not meet the federal poverty definition.

We value community service here at VIA, and are grateful for the opportunity to work with other experts in the field on this important issue.
