Dr. Gary Ciurczak, Via Evaluation’s CEO, attended the Chicago Area Chapter of the GPA’s Annual Conference, “Grant Professionals as Community Builders,” on Friday, May 12. A highlight of the conference was the Donor’s Panel, moderated by Eric Weinheimer, President and CEO of Forefront, entitled “State of the State and Union: Impact on Grantmakers and Philanthropy.” Mr. Weinheimer was introduced by Mike Chamberlain, the CEO of the National GPA who also shared key ideas of the national organization and its currently developing strategic plan. Providing valuable and actionable information from the panel was Ms. Peggy Davis of the Chicago Community Trust; Christy Prahl of Crown Family Philanthropies; Frank Baiocchi of Polk Brothers Foundation; and Jose Rico, from the United Way of Metro Chicago. The conference took place in several historic rooms in the downtown Macy’s department store, formerly the Marshall Field’s Department Store building, which is a National Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its gilded age furnishings and décor provided a wonderful setting for the conference activities. Gary met grant professionals from the Chicago area and beyond, and learned about city and regional priorities.
